Up, Up, and Away
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday! We’re not even two weeks into January and yet 2021 has already been 500 years long 😅 Hopefully today’s picks can bring you a little bit of light and cheer. As always, feedback, suggestions, and personal rec requests are highly welcome!
Don’t Weigh Me Down
Quilt coats are all the rage right now — they even got a dedicated feature in the New York Times — and quite understandably so. In these trying times, who wouldn’t want to envelop themselves in the coziest, comfiest garment known to man? Still, I’ve regarded the offerings from Farewell Frances and Psychic Outlaw with a sort of cautious covetousness. Hefty price tag aside, most of their offerings are quite bulky and substantial, and though I do want to be swaddled, I don’t want to be lugging around clothes that are half my body weight. This cropped quilted coat presents an elegant solution; it hits at the hip and is sleek and lightweight, but still offers enough padding for warmth and protection. And it comes with a matching hat! Forget Bratz dolls; this set is giving me real life Polly Pocket vibes.
Paint by Colors
Sure it’s basic, but you know what? I like the checkerboard pattern! I think it’s fun and looks cute and plays well with other prints. Critics and dissidents: might I change your mind with these pants? Vaux Shop owner Aly Barohn is a fiber artist and hand-paints each pair with a colorful array of pastel-hued squares, a play on the concept of a painter’s palette. Painter pants are, after all, essentially a blank canvas that transform into an inimitable piece of art after years and years of serving its intended purpose. I’m thrilled to see these deadstock pants getting reworked and repurposed, granting them a new lease on life.
Picture Perfect
Once you see it, I’m sure you’ll all agree with me: Pudu Ceramic is a top contender for the most charming, whimsical account on Instagram. I mean, just look at the tiny potted plants, the striped air balloons sailing past fluffy clouds, the rainbow cottages nestled close to each other! If you love Scandinavian architecture; if you have ever owned or currently own a fairy garden; or if your favorite movie is Pixar’s “Up”... do yourself a favor and snag one of their pieces.
